Can I still use the 700R4 that came bolted behind the engine out of a 1992 S10 pick-up? Secure a nut onto each bolt by hand and tighten fully using the wrench. To most people, this is pretty much the extent of what they know. All 6 relays will be wired properly in the new harness from Current Performance and simply go right back on to the firewall, the original 4 relays themselves actually stay on the firewall, just simply unplug the connector. In fact, the easiest way to source an automatic transmission is to buy the one attached to your replacement engine. Do you have any feed back? Weve been able to show you the major components that go into the S-10 V-8 swap, but the complete list of parts you may need for this conversion is huge, ranging from radiator supports to tapered leaf-spring shims.

Manufactured from the highest grade American made steel. Finally have almost all the parts together to do the swap into my truck!! Tires even with posi were easy to smoke. Your Name: Your Email: Message: Type Code in box: Code is case-sensitive. Start by removing the hood and grille shell. Been thinking of doing a cheap engine swap to try and make things fun again. Standard ceramic finish is polished silver, contact us for bare steel and black ceramic coated pricing.
David 10-16-06 I too am swaping to the 4. Been looking at them in the salvage yard to see if the top half of the intake can be turned around so the intake isn't against the firewall. I am swapping it into a lifted 1986 Chevy S10 4x4. The 94-95 trucks can have the tachometer recalibrated for the V8 so they will read properly. The center of this conversion is our engine mounts and crossmember kit. Those built before 1986 and not subsequently beefed up arent strong enough to handle the V-8s torque, and those made for 2.
Wound up having to have the engine rebuilt, and it still wouldn't get out of it's own way. The tanks, made specifically for your truck, feature a recessed area in the top for the fuel pump module and sending unit, so no floor modifications are needed for clearance. You may need to get a high-mount alternator bracket to clear the steering components. Understeering beast from the extra weight, it was a fine line from understeer to oversteer. The included fuel pump module features an in-tank wiring harness and three ports - one for the feed line, one for the return line, and one for the vent. Unfortunately I left before the project was completed so I don't know if it was ever approved. This is, after all, a California cruiser that will see plenty of SoCal highways over the next few years.
Of course, there are those who would say that's kind of the point. Locate the four studs in the intake manifold. But, if it doesn't, have the donor vehicle's driveshaft shortened and fitted with the old driveshaft's differential flange. Also, its not a good idea to try mix-and-match parts between kits. Many are rated around 300 hp right from the factory.
Hedmans Fred Siemsen told us that since each companys headers are shaped differently, theyll only fit around fenderwells and past the steering shaft when the same companys motor mounts are holding the engine in place. Of course, you can always use an aftermarket tachometer and avoid any of these extra pieces or hassles. The new harness will come with connectors that plug back in to the relays left behind. The cost, however, is more than double that of the Corvette radiator. Certain things that matter are whether or not the truck was a 4 cyl, 2. Their customer service is second to none, making the entire process that much easier.
Anyone who's ever bolted anything together can get a 350 engine sitting in an S-10 just by following the directions included with the swap kit. The new harness should simply plug back in to any connectors, there should be no reason to remove or replace anything from the inside of the vehicle in most cases. You may need to modify the firewall a bit to clear the engine, but it's usually nothing a large hammer can't handle. The only one you can use is the first gen with iron heads as the 2nd and 3rd gen have the oilpan that won't fit because of it's size and it's used to make the bttom end stronger. That can make it much more difficult if you want to actually drive it. Slide the carburetor or throttle body over the bolts.
Pop them all and you can remove the harness. Now I am looking at swaping a 2. Let me know what you think in the comments! I think it was '93-97. Add V-8 power and you likely wont be able to hook it up. Bob 10-24-09 I just changed my 4. Is there anything elce i will need for this swap? I don't want to start a brand feud, but Dodge Dakotas can be found with a V8. This connector can simply be removed from the stock harness and plugged in when the new harness arrives.
