This was caused by two separate defects, the upper intake manifold gasket not sealing properly to the lower intake manifold was leaking in two different spots and the leaking throttle body to intake manifold gasket was leaking coolant into the intake duct to air filter , which was caused by excess heat from the egr pipe warping the upper manifold. If this valve sticks it can allow exhaust gas into the intake when it should not be and cause your engine to stumble at idle or low speeds. Gm has been uncooperative in this matter. This solenoid allows the shifter to be moved out of Park only when the brake is pressed. This seems to me to be a safety concern not only from a standpoint of the car stalling and becoming hard to steer but I work in the outdoors in remote locations in sub zero weather in the winter. The defective plastic intake manifold and the broken starter from the vehicle which clearly showed that the egr stove pipe allowed water to get into the engine.
I had this happen with my '01 Grand Am. It will end up saving a lot of money over time. I found this solution at another forum on this issue. The consumer requested reimbursement for repairs. The engine had problems with the intake plenum leaking coolant, because of the egr system.
